When a natural disaster impacts you, your family or your community, NILs may be able to help.

The NILs Natural Disaster Relief loan provides eligible people affected by an officially declared natural disaster with access to up to $3,000 for essential goods and services, with no interest, no fees and repayments based on what you can afford.

A NILs Natural Disaster Relief loan can help cover essential recovery costs, including:

  • Replacement household items
  • Essential appliances
  • Fencing and minor repairs
  • Water tanks
  • Vehicle repairs
  • Temporary relocation or recovery expenses
  • Other urgent essential purchases related to the disaster

How it works

  • Loans are interest free with no fees or charges
  • Loan amounts of up to $3,000 are available
  • Repayment terms are generally up to 24 months, with longer terms considered based on affordability, with a maximum term of 36 months
  • Simplified documentation requirements may apply for people impacted by a natural disaster

Eligibility

To access support under the Natural Disaster Relief Policy:

  • The natural disaster must be officially declared by local, state, or federal government authorities
  • The requested item or service must relate to the impact of the disaster
  • Standard NILs eligibility criteria apply

You may be asked to provide

  • Identification - 100 points of ID(such as a Driver’s License or Passport, Medicare card or Health Care Card, bank card or bills, something to verify your address)
  • Proof of incomebank transactions and / or Centrelink statements and / or payslips
  • Information that helps us determine you can repay the loanbank transactions for all accounts and any other information on existing debts and bills
  • A quote or invoice for the item or servicethe supplier’s details (business name, ABN, address, phone or email, banking or payment details), and the payment amount including delivery
